land of the Malls

really … how many SMs are there in Luzon?

let’s start at Edsa … 1. SM City North Edsa - the first of the ‘mega-malls’ 2. SM Cubao - its behind Araneta Center so let’s count it as part of the ‘SM Edsas’ 3. SM Megamall - this used to be the largest mall in the Philippines (until May 20 :D) 4. SM Makati

in Quezon City (aside from North Edsa and Cubao) 5. SM Fairview

in Manila 6. SM Quiapo - the oldest of them all :) 7. SM Harrison Plaza 8. SM Centerpoint in Sta. Mesa 9. SM Manila - the one behind Manila City Hall 10. SM San Lazaro - the place used to be a racetrack

in other parts of the Metro 11. SM Supercenter Valenzuela 12. SM Bicutan 13. SM Sucat 14. SM Southmall (along Zapote Road) 15. SM Mall of Asia - now the largest mall in the Philippines (you should have seen the number of people there this weekend … parang wala ng ibang mall sa Pilipinas)

how about in Northern Luzon? 16. SM Marilao - hey, this one is just 10minutes away from our house! 17. SM Pampanga (San Fernando) 18. SM Clark - this one opened just last May 19. SM Baguio

and in Southern Luzon? 20. SM Bacoor 21. SM Dasmarinas - 2 SMs in Cavite alone! 22. SM Batangas 23. SM Sta. Rosa 24. SM Lucena

Technically, The Podium is an SM, just a ’sosyal’ version of it. So that makes it 25. Plus there are more two more to be opened with the year … Pasig and Lipa. That makes it 27 in Luzon by yearend. No wonder Henry Sy is the richest man in the Philippines.

and yeah, if I remember it right, there is an SM in China :)

by the way, this post has been inspired by our ‘field trip’ to the Mall of Asia last Saturday :D

GRABE! ako naman nung linggo nagpunta, wall to wall na tao. pero nung around 10am, ok pa, nakapagkape kami peacefully sa coffee bean and tea leaf, great view. hehehe. =)

Actually, there are are already three in Cavite (Bacoor, Dasamarinas and Molino) and I guess they are going to put up one in tagaytay.

Ang naiisip ko nga, baka pag dating ng araw, di na Pilipinas ang tawag sa bansa natin, malamang SM na rin. hahaha.

Henry Sy oughta give you a prize or something, na plug mo lahat ng branches eh! :)

Hi myepinoy … oops, I thought Molino is not yet open. So, that would make it 28 SMs in Luzon.

Tagaytay? Basta wag silang haharang sa view ng Taal Lake ha :)

Hi Jane … dapat nga yata maningil ako ng ad fee kay Henry Sy :)

How can the world say that the Philippines is a poor country. how can all these malls make money if the country is really poor. The survival of these malls is a testament that we have money to spend.
Other countries have big malls pero walang tao and kulang ng tenants dahil paana magkakatenant kung wala naman customers? Dito sa Pilipinas, buhay na buhay and nga malls, (i guess SM malls in particular.)

Puro wrong spelling pala my comment.

Paano magkakatenant kung walang customers?

Dito sa Pilipinas, buhay na buhay ang mga malls.
